Smurfit Kappa Ania Paper, understand that the development of its own activities has to take place with respect to environment, reconciling as much as possible its manufacturing processes with the needs of other in the neighbourhood and in the world at large - not forgetting the well being of employees too.
To reach this goal it's necessary to balance social responsibility, environmental responsibility and economic responsibility, by following this guiding principles:

  1. The care taken in respect of the environment must be carried out in a preventative way, following the company's Environment Management System, which accords with standard UNI EN ISO 14001/2004. 
  2. Whilst continuosly searching for improvement in performances, fully respect present and future Italian and European laws regarding pollution of water and atmospheric emissions.
  3. Rationalize the use of raw materials: water, electrical power and non-renewable energy sources.
  4. Maximise the use of recovered raw materials in the production process concentrating on sourcing within Italy.
  5. Keep a close and steady watch on the environmental consequences og all activities, in particular maintain steady monitoring of the effect of the mill on environmental vectors (air, water, soil)
  6. Organise waste materials collection / energy recycling / recovery centres, using landfill only when necessary.
  7. Take special care in reducing every stream of acoustic and smell emission, using the best available technologies - avaible at sustainable cost and in the context of the mill's location.
  8. Adopt systems and procedures suitable to control any possible environmental impacts arising from emergency situations.
  9. Involve all staff in importance of being committed to respect for the environment, giving instructions, information and suitable details concerning everyone’s own duty.
  10. Involve suppliers of goods and services, to obtain common improvement
  11. Take all possible steps to maintain a close collaborative relationship with local administrations and relevant authorities, and develope a constant and constructive dialogue with public opinion.
  12. Periodically re-examine our projects, systems and targets, especially in the light of new available technologies.
